Now that I have a blog, I need to catch up on some of the exciting things that have happened recently. One of the big ones was this past summer when The Hartford (think insurance) staged a golf tournament for some key employees. I was the official photographer for the event. It was held at Blackhawk Country Club in Dublin, CA (30 minutes east of San Francisco). They have two fabulous courses and the weather couldn’t have been nicer. Highlighting the day as instructor and speaker was the Golf Channel’s Roger Maltbie. Roger is a former PGA tour pro who won 10 tournaments between 1975 and 1985. You can now catch him on TV where he is a regular on the Golf Channel.
The tournament day began with a series of lessons, with groups of golfers circulating between putting, chipping, and driving workshops. Roger handled the latter group and instilled the wisdom gained from so many years spent as a pro golfer. In the afternoon, the attendees split into their foursomes and shot a full 18 holes with a shotgun start. Each foursome had a chance to get their photos taken with Roger. After a cocktail hour and dinner, Roger returned as the after-dinner speaker, entertaining the golfers with stories from his long career, his own personal peaks and disappointments as a pro, and his reflections on some of the big name players in the game. Based on the reaction, I’d say everyone had a tremendous day and Roger surely played a key role in the success of the tournament. The event was organized by SportsMark, a sports marketing, event management, and corporate hospitality company.
