If you’re a couple or individual in the San Francisco South Bay area looking for a great location to get a variety of photographic “looks”, check out San Jose’s Japanese Friendship Garden and the San Jose History Park . Both are really just sections of Kelley Park, also the home of Happy Hollow, the popular children’s park and zoo. Though they are all neighbors of each other, they couldn’t be much different from an experience point of view and a photographic “look”. The friendship garden is serene and beautiful any time of year with its Koi ponds, bridges, waterfalls, etc. November is special with the addition of fall colors.
The History Center is a truly unique experience with a collection of old buildings from all parts of San Jose. They have been placed here in a move to protect the heritage of San Jose. There’s an old hotel housing an art gallery, book store, and a fun old fashioned ice cream parlor. Set up those milk shakes! Down the street is the trolley barn, an old gas station, a number of cultural museums (Greek, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.) an old firehouse, and even a 19th century fruit barn from the Coyote Valley.
The photos I took of Nathan and Lauren as we captured them in a number of these sites around the park. Note: Photography permits are required for commercial shooting.
